Usually, Freitag helps old truck tarpaulins to new life, now the Swiss also use old airbags for their bags.

The material in the F707 Stratos pop-out backpack is made from B-stock airbags that narrowly failed one of the many quality tests it underwent and was therefore demobilized. The lightweight rucksack that doubles as a shoulder bag, unfolds–whenever needed–from the tarp pocket as fast as an exploding airbag.

Apart from unused airbags, the pop-out backpack also uses Freitag’s well-known discarded truck tarps and with its 18 liters of volume is designed for lightweight and even slightly heavier-duty transport needs. It has a zippered main compartment, an additional strap so it can also be worn as a shoulder bag, a second zippered compartment behind the back for valuables and a closing outer compartment under the tarp flap.

The F707 Stratos is available at Freitag Stores, selected resellers and Freitag.ch and retails for €180.

For the F707 STRATOS launch, the Freitag team hooked up with the crew of Zweihund who scripted and brought a bizarre, non-traditional film to life. The clip features airbags in the wrong place at the wrong time, intentionally embedded in incoherent moments and absurd situations. The story is stretched like an arc until the end, and the sorted-out airbag finally finds its new vocation. This visual firework is underpinned with sounds from Tschong-Gil Kummert and special effects by Simple Mechanik.
