Do you remember that ugly shoe that every grandpa used to wear and was supposedly super comfortable? Do you remember how you always thought that no comfort in the world could make you wear this kind of shoe?

Well, things are different now. Sneakers like Nike's Air Monarch or the New Balance 990 have been trending for a while now and have inspired several high fashion designers to create their own chunky sneaker. Balenciaga’s Triple S model which hit the market some time ago as well as the newly released Tech Runner by Axel Arigato or Prada's Cloudburst show that clumsy features are anything but reserved for orthopedic footwear any longer. Characterized by their thick and clunky sole, these shoes have become the eye-catching centerpiece of many looks.

And as the newest development in the chunky sneaker club, many of the more classic or commercial footwear labels have started to hop on the trend too, as recent releases by brands such as Ruco Line or Skechers are showing. Expect to see a lot more of these shapes for a while now - on all levels of the price scale.
