It all began with the Céline spring/summer collection in 2013: the brand brought fur slippers onto the runway. From then on, other high fashion labels such as Gucci, Alexander McQueen or Simone Rocha jumped on the train, too. Known for their extraordinary styles, celebrities such as Rihanna or Kim Kardashian also leveraged the trend.

By now, the furry trend evolved and is supplemented by loafers and slippers with fur soles and details, often combined with eye-catching silver and golden studs or buckles. But certainly not everybody feels comfortable with wearing real fur: that’s why shops like Asos or Topshop offer popular-priced fake fur versions, fondly called loafurs.

However, as with short-sleeved woolen pullovers, nobody really knows when to wear them: while they may be too hot to wear in summer, snowy roads and fur slippers don’t seem to make a perfect match either. But as we all know, fashion trends don’t always have to be reasonable – so why not go ahead and try it out?

We collected our favourite versions here:
