British specialty footwear maker United Nude has opened its first flagship store in New York at 25 Bond Street. The move follows recent openings in Amsterdam and Shanghai. “The brand has been growing strongly in Asia and Europe, but we needed to press the reset button in America and show off the United Nude brand in the coolest possible way,” said co-founder and creative director Rem D. Koolhaas. Accordingly, customers will see for the first time stateside United Nude's “dark shop” concept that highlights just the products while keeping the rest of the store blacked out. Key features of the space include The Wall of Light, a computer-run LED wall displaying United Nude inimitable products as standalone works of art in geometric frames and an art sculpture based on the brand’s Lo Res Project. The Lo Res car, which sits at the front of the store, is the altered result of a 3D scan of a Lamborghini Countach subsequently lowered in resolution to produce a series of different abstractions. Looking ahead, the company said it has plans to open additional stores in Guangzhou, London and Tokyo, as well as launch a photography exhibit in Shanghai this summer in conjunction with the World Expo.
