After three days of presenting the newest s/s ’18 trends for bags, luggage and accessories the leather goods and accessories fair I.L.M Offenbach closed its doors on Monday. From September 2-4 the German trade show welcomed 5,900 visitors in a space that was approximately 13,500 sq. meters. Half of the 300 exhibitors were international brands, with Italy providing the greatest share.

“The degree of internationalization is luckily still very high and even rising. Many foreign brands have in the meantime become permanent participants,” said Arnd Hinrich Kappe, managing director of Messe Offenbach.

While leather goods still form the biggest part of the trade show, around 15-20% of product now stem from textile goods and shoes. In general, exhibitors’ reactions were mixed: Most brands, mainly in the upper areas  C and D, reported a low amount of foot traffic as well as a reduction in frequency compared to the last edition of I.L.M in March. However, others were satisfied with the outcome, claiming Sunday to be the busiest day.

Concerning orders, decorative bags were doing well according to Peter Schwarz of Aigner and Maria Knebel of Goldkrone. There is also a remarkable rising demand for bags made of PU materials due to lower price levels said Alexandra Kappey of Marc O’Polo.
