Mega womenswear trade show Coterie returned to the Javits Center in New York last week and once again offered up an assortment of literally hundreds of brands, especially if one includes its sister shows Fame, Sole Commerce and Moda, which took place side by side the main event as usual.
Major denim players returned to the show and the majority of them showed on the lower level of the two-level show. Most reported steady business. Here are some of their fashion highlights:
Boyfriend styles are bestsellers for spring according to the reps at Mother. Also hot for the season there are camouflage shorts and wide-leg silhouettes.

Current/Elliott is reinterpreting some of its favorite styles from when it was founded in 2008. These include a boyfriend jean, utility looks (especially a jumpsuit) and supersoft T-shirts.

The top jean at Closed remains that one that made it famous to begin with: the Original X-Pocket that many other brands continue to knock off all these years later. Also big for spring are pop colors and tropical prints.

“People are wanting novelty, not basics,” was the word at DL 1961, which found success with styles embellished with stars, distressed looks (including a loose denim top) and colored denim.

Some of the most original looks on view were at Hudson’s very busy booth, which wisely stated “We Are All Eternally in Love With Denim” on its outer wall. Biker shorts are the new “it” shorts there and carpenter looks are on fire. The brand also wowed with its out there tie-dye looks in yellow and black and numerous items–both in denim and nondenim–with colorful landscape prints that resemble photos.

Colored and acid-washed looking denim was also on view at Siwy and Joie.

Elsewhere, denim-friendly most T-shirt brand Chrldr showed a 1980s-inspired baseball jacket in an animal print and rainbow stripes while Korean brand Oana presented a richly embellished denim jacket and matching wide leg jeans in a light wash in the special Korean designers section.
