“The industry is going through a period of upheaval due to changes in retail and online trade, “ states the Federal Association of the German Footwear and Leather Goods Industry, which does not come as a surprise. Still, at one of the key trade show events of the segment, ILM (Internationale Lederwaren Messe/International Leather Goods Fair), the overall mood among exhibitors seemed optimistic and organizers report stable visitor numbers.
The 150th edition held in Offenbach from 16 to 18 February 2019 with around 300 brands on display happened three weeks earlier than usual and shortly after Micam to attract more international visitors. According to Arnd Hinrich Kappe, managing director of Messe Offenbach, the new strategy worked out well: "We are pleased to report a marked increase in visitors from abroad as well as many new customers who visited the ILM for the first time,“ he summarized.
The next ILM will be held from 7 to 9 September 2019 featuring the ILM Awards in various categories.
