The organizers of the international trade fair for the leather goods industry, ILM (Internationale Lederwaren Messe), announced this evening that the fair has to be cancelled.

In a statement by the ILM, it says: "The Offenbach city administration has withdrawn the permission for the ILM from Messe Offenbach GmbH. The trade fair will not take place from 5-7 September 2020 and is hereby cancelled."

Currently, the city of Offenbach, with 59 infections per 100,000 inhabitants, is still well ahead of all other Hessian districts and independent cities.

The ILM had prepared for the fair in advance with a comprehensive hygiene concept. For this reason, the ILM was approved at a time when Offenbach was still below the level of 35 infections per 100,000 inhabitants defined by the state of Hesse.

"Unfortunately, the occurrence of infections now no longer allows such an event, even with a specialist audience, because the situation in the city has changed drastically," said lord mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke.

The acute corona infection is a bitter pill for the trade fair, which could have taken place four weeks ago. "We very much regret that the situation in Offenbach has changed so dramatically. However, time has now become very tight for our exhibitors. That's why we are ultimately glad that we now have a clear target," explained Arnd Hinrich Kappe, ILM managing director.

Like all municipal permits, this one, too, was subject to the proviso that infection would not occur. Decisions are therefore always made at short notice on the basis of the current situation, in the hope that the numbers are low enough to make things happen.

On the part of the city of Offenbach, however, it is said that there is a clear perspective, even during the Corona pandemic, that a leather goods fair could take place again. The ILM's concept is coherent. Hopefully the ILM Winter Styles 2021 will be able to take place in March.
