Apart from Brexit it was also about sourcing last week in London: trade show Fashion SVP again gathered about 90 exhibitors at London’s Olympia on 29 & 30 January.

Known for its individual mix the intimate event presented an offer for different needs, from volume to small runs with a core selection for the middle market; from high fashion to sportswear; from knits to wovens.

The denim section hosted a handful of international manufacturers such as Crossing from Morocco, Cotton Web from Pakistan or Sybarite from the UK. Highlight were the handmade and natural indigo dyed textiles by Blue Handed & Jugu.

The biggest part of manufacturers came from China, but also companies from India, Turkey or Portugal put their products on display; in the focus was the Moroccan pavilion, a special collaboration with the Moroccan textile producers’ association and the government export promotion organization.

All in all, footfall and the mix of visitors on both days were satisfactory: “We made very good business here, better than at some other shows,” says Piyush Tejura of Sybarite. Others had hoped for more traffic respectively for more buyers from high street/volume retailers.

On top, the Fashion SVP team around managing director Buzz Carter organized several well-attended seminars and workshops dealing with topics such as integrating sustainability into the business strategy, managing the relationship between factory & client or giving financial advise for fashion start-ups.

Newly installed was the ‘Sourcing Hub’–an information desk addressing to all visitors to give support on all matters and challenges around sourcing.

Though Fashion SVP remains a smaller player in the sourcing segment, it has found its place on the UK market, just as one exhibitor sums it up: “In any case, it is important to have an event like this in London.”
