So far Bangladesh has not been in the center of the public Corona attention, but now the organizers of Bangladesh Denim Expo react to the worldwide spreading of the virus and ongoing travel restrictions: denim trade show Bangladesh Denim Expo in Dhaka, initially scheduled for 6-7 April, is canceled. That also goes for the connected events Bangladesh Fashionology Summit and Bangladesh Innovation Week.
“The recent corona virus (Covid-19) outbreak is becoming a global challenge now. Given the severity of concerns regarding the virus globally and our wish to protect the well-being of our staff, visitors and exhibitors, it is with the deepest regret that we will be postponing the forthcoming 12th edition of Bangladesh Denim Expo,” it says in an official statement by the organizers.
The next edition will be held 2-3 November, 2020, together with the Sustainable Apparel Forum, a one-day congress focusing on responsible sourcing and production.
On Sunday, 8 March, Bangladesh confirmed its first three cases of Covid-19 virus in the country, according to a report by daily newspaper Dhaka Tribune. Though the novel coronavirus has not spread alarmingly in Bangladesh yet, the government had restricted entry of people from four countries—Italy, South Korea, Japan, and Kuwait—without virus-free medical certificates already on Wednesday, 4 March, reports the official news agency BSS.
