Amsterdam is warming up its engines with many events celebrating the beauty, versatility and coolness of denim fabrics and jeanswear throughout the city and in the Westergasfabriek area, from 17 until 23 April 2017.
Meet top insiders at Kingpins Amsterdam
Most specialists of the denim and jeans market will meet from 19 until 20 April at Westergasfabriek for Kingpins Amsterdam. The two-day -upon invitation only- international trade show will gather top innovators and trendsetters from the denim industry presenting novelties from about 90 global exhibitors from top-notch mills, wash houses, full package manufacturers and trim providers from all over the globe.
A whole plan of events will introduce insiders to novelties for f/w 2018/2019. Among scheduled seminars one can find “Denim Trends for f/w 2018/2019. Fit, fabric, finish” presented by Amy Leverton, Denim Dudes, to be held on 19 April at 11.30am and on April 20, at 11am.
Invista will hold its seminar “Around the Denim World - Consumers Insights across 5 countries”. From September to November 2016, Invista conducted an extensive research across five countries in order to learn consumers’ vision on jeans – what they love, what frustrates them and what they want to see in the future. Invista's Jean Hegedus will disclose such results within the seminar that will be held on 19 April at 1.30pm and will present fresh insights including video clips from consumers.
Also not to be missed is another seminar held by Alvanon, global apparel business and product development consultancy. Its title is: “Denim Fit – can a solution be found?” The conference taking place on 20 April at 1.30pm will help brands finding ways for achieving better fit products thanks to technology and data.
Among companies that will be presenting interesting new projects within the show are Lenzing, who will launch its latest garment collection under the name of Sustainable Denim Wardrobe as an attempt to develop a denim lifestyle collection that enables ecologically conscious consumption.
Searching for sustainable blue paths
On 21 April, Kingpins will also hold The Kingpins Transformers summit "The cost of sustainability", a day-long event featuring a series of presentations and panels with experts from along the entire denim supply chain. Each will speak about the opportunities, challenges and progress being made toward making the denim supply chain sustainable from fiber through apparel, discussing if the cost is prohibitive or not.
The day will host a morning session from 9.30am until 2.30pm, presenting industry speakers’ experiences, and an afternoon for questions and discussions.
Among participants, there will be Tom Flicker and Kristin Kimm (Target), Miguel Sanchez (Archroma), Alan McClay (Better Cotton Initiative), Kurt Schlaepfer (Bluesign), Brent Crossland (E3 Cotton), Alberto Conti (Garmon), Enrique Silla (Jeanologia), Andreas Dorner (Lenzing), Sedef Uncu Aki (Orta Denim), Paulina Szmydke (writer and researcher) and Sanjeev Bahl (Saitex).
Denim nerd’s city stroll
The seven day program of Amsterdam Denim Days (17-23 April) will see Amsterdam’s world class denim stores presenting tailored product launches, presentations, exhibitions and special offers geared for the denim obsessive. The city’s main areas involved are the Nine Streets and Kalverstraat areas.
A concentrate of denim happenings at Blueprint Festival
From 21 until 22 April, at the Westergasfabriek area, the Blueprint Festival, international textile trade show, will take place and invite denim brands, producers, consumers, insiders and designers to celebrate the indigo world. This year’s brand participation has grown further. Among confirmed participants there are Tommy Hilfiger Denim, Calvin Klein Jeans, Nudie Jeans Co., Lee, Kings of Indigo and Wrangler.
Amsterdam Denim Days – initiated by House of Denim - is organized by Modefabriek in collaboration with Kingpins Show, HTNK Fashion Recruitment & Consultancy and the City of Amsterdam.
Unique book launch
Within the Blueprint Festival events, designer and denim expert Piero Turk will present his second photo book “Number Two – A life with denim”. The publication will be sold within the event in a special edition package completed by a limited edition denim bag by Indigo People and by a complimentary photoprint extracted from the book and signed by Piero Turk. The book will also be available through the Etsy e-commerce platform.
Focusing on blue visions
Tonello, Italian technology manufacturer, will also disclose Denim Gallery, an own project that will be presented for Kingpins Amsterdam and Blueprint, from 19 to 22 April. The project will display dreams and visions by 10 artists and designers from around the world who have used denim as their canvas for painting, staining, and employed various other techniques in order to express themselves with artistic languages, materials, and concepts. The projects were created by artists such as Grace Warland, Matias Sandoval, Serena Conti, Su Kim and Jon Rouleau, Mika Mitarai, Juan Manuel Gomez, Ilinca Trif, Stefan Vella, and Greta Giannini.
