London premium menswear tradeshow Jacket Required (27-28 Jul.) closed the doors to its SS17 edition on Thursday evening. Held yet again at The Old Truman Brewery, the fair brought together some 300 brands across apparel, footwear and accessories, plus a smattering of lifestyle products.
Here, our seven-strong roundup of highlights:
Scye’s denim dungarees
We found ourselves lingering at Japanese label Scye’s booth, tugging a little extra at the white, button-adorned denim dungarees. Other pieces that caught our eye included striped boiler suits and jean jackets with detachable collars, removable with gold-tone zips to reveal raw edges underneath. Scye is well known in Japan, where it was established fifteen years ago, but it’s yet to break into Europe.
Riceman’s offbeat cool shirts and tees
Riceman is another lust-worthy Japanese contender. The premise of the label is to produce clothing with as much staple-appeal as rice holds in the Japanese diet. Cotton tunic-shirts and dolman-sleeved, oversize tees form part of the spring offering. Each piece comes with a Camphor Tree wooden swing tag that handily doubles as a moth repellent.
Pairs in Paris’s sneakers
Two year-old French sneaker label Pairs in Paris might well give Common Projects a run for its money. The SS17 collection consists of various models in leather, ranging from zip-up and triple-strap Velcro constructions to classic lace-ups. We zoomed in on the putty-colored shoe with a fully perforated upper – the look sits somewhere between raw minimalism and hospital chic.
Libertine Libertine’s tiger attack
Danish name Libertine Libertine has a weakness for big cats, letting tigers and lions loose in their print stories on a regular basis. This season, an Asian-inspired tiger print smothers garments such as short-sleeved cotton shirts, injecting the tradeshow landscape with a heady hit of color.
Monkee Genes’ fully organic offering
British denim label Monkee Genes re-launched for AW16, unveiling its latest collection at Jacket Required. Every pair of jeans in the range has been crafted from organic denim. Even styles boosted with Hyperflex stay true to Monkee Genes’ sustainable principles, using recycled polyester and organic cotton to achieve its ultra stretchy characteristics.
“Take-your-pick” leather jackets by James Grose
The feel of a leather jacket is as personal as denim weight preference; some like their bikers as supple as second skin while others prefer armor-like thickness. With this in mind, James Grose, which has entered its fourth season, offers each of its styles in a choice of leathers, from durable cowhide to butter-soft lambskin and suede.
Bill’s things
Bill, an offshoot of the style-driven UK gift subscription service Not Another Bill, served up a selection of small leather goods and desk accessories at Jacket Required to mark its very debut. Playfully designed yet practical, the range encompasses anything from leather artist rolls to travel wallets.
