The 6th edition of Bangladesh Denim Expo ended in the capital Dhaka on Thursday hoping to connect the global buyers with local supplies for boosting business of the country.

 

Exhibitors as well as buyers expressed their satisfactions over the expo, saying that the country’s denim business is growing gradually with setting up hi-tech for producing high-end products to attract buyers particularly from the European Union and the United States.

They also recommended that the local denim makers should make their enter productions process sustainable with using less water, chemicals and electricity.

“It’s a most import event for expansion of denim business of Bangladesh,” Yitmoz Demir, South Asia Regional Manager of Orta Anadolu, a Turkey-based 65 years old company, told the SPORTSWEAR INTERNATIONAL in Dhaka while replying to a query about the expo.

 

Mr. Demir also said such expo help creating a platform for denim stakeholders and will make Bangladesh as a one stop sourcing platform for denim industry.

Currently, Bangladesh has 30 denim mills for which, investments to the tune of US$1.0 billion have already been made.

Talking to the SPORTSWEAR INTERNATIONAL, Rene Van Berkel, representative of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)’s regional office in India, said the Bangladeshi denim makers should go high-end products for getting higher prices of their products in the global market.

 

He also suggested the local denim makers for taking effective measures to increase productivity for making their business sustainable.

Mohammad A Haleem Ghouri, Chief Executive Officer of Greenback NY, an apparel sourcing and consulting company, said the local denim entrepreneurs should take part in a big way in the future expos for expansion of their business.

 

Local companies had occupied only nine out of the show's 58 stalls while the rest were used by the foreign firms and exhibitors. 

 

Apart from local exhibitors, businessmen from China, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Pakistan, Japan, San Marino, Germany, Brazil, India and Hong Kong took part in the expo, held at International Convention City Bashundhara in Dhaka on May 17-18.

 

The theme of expo was ‘Denim Networks.’ 

 

 “Networking is the only way to expand business,” Mostafiz Uddin, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh Denim Expo told the SPORTSWEAR INTERNATIONAL while explaining the main objective of the theme.

 

He also said: “We want to connect the top players of denim such as brands, retailers, manufacturers and experts in order to share a global approach towards the main challenges of our times.”

 

Mr. Mostafiz, who organises the denim expositions twice a year in Bangladesh, expressed his satisfaction over the expo, saying that the response from the participants including retailers and brands was super.

 

The next expo will be held at the same venue in Dhaka on November 08-09, 2017.
