Topshop’s latest designer collaboration is with Portuguese design duo Marques’ Almeida. On 9 October, 2014, the 68-piece Marques’ Almeida x Topshop collection hit the market.
The collection delivers a nineties-vibe combined with elegant but youthful style esthetics. Next to knit, leather and fake fur, the collection is especially defined by denim pieces – a material the duo, which has been showing at London Fashion Week for the past two seasons, is known for. There are non-stretch denim garments in bold indigo and bleached blue hues as well as a white version.
“From the beginning on we concentrated our research on teenagers and the so called “youth codex” of clothing, and while working on this collection we were able to dive deep into those archives,” says Marta Marques.
The typical design characteristics of Marques’ Almeida become clear through untrimmed edges that lead to a fringed look, chiseled A-line dresses, jeans with a straight cut and central pieces with a destroyed look that is supposed to imitate an animal pattern print.
The whole collection is available in all Topshop branches, as well as on topshop.com. Retail prices for the garments range between $30 (jersey camisole) and $500 (leather pants).
