While the Milanese fashion and art gallery Fondazione Sozzani is hosting the exhibition “Anna Piaggi: illustrations by Karl Lagerfeld,” another initiative is running parallel to it.

From January 20 to February 27, 2022, Fondazione Sozzani is hosting a collaboration project with Vestiaire Collective, the online marketplace that buys and sells pre-owned authenticated luxury fashion. For the first time together, they are unveiling and starting to sell a unique selection of curated pieces–including rare items by Martin Margiela, John Galliano and Comme Des Garçons–that belonged to the famous Italian fashion journalist and style icon Anna Piaggi, who died in 2012.

The project has the aim to better promote circular fashion and inspire their communities, and the proceeds will endow the cultural programs of both Fondazione Sozzani and Associazione Culturale Anna Piaggi.

“Heritage is our culture. To enhance the heritage of fashion and to contribute to creating a culture of awareness–his is the future,” said Carla Sozzani, founder, Fondazione Sozzani.

“At Vestiaire Collective we believe in the importance of driving positive change, this is why our collaboration with Fondazione Sozzani serves as the ideal scene for fashion durability and heritage. These elements are the core essences of our community, mission and vision: to spark inspiration and to bring awareness of the new circular fashion future,” said Sophie Hersan, who co-founded, Vestiaire Collective together with Fanny Moizant in 2009.

"We have demonstrated that circularity in fashion is possible and we want the audience to get used to an idea of luxury which is more focused on durability than on novelty. One needs to build a community and conquer its trust by organizing a system of certain authentification, fixing effective selection criteria and guaranteeing transactions. It's a complex work that needs to be constantly updated," she added, implying that it succeeded in its project considering that Vestiaire Collective is the first B-Corp certified fashion resale platform, based upon an inventory of three million items that include 550,000 new listings every month.
