Potsdamer Platz Arkaden, the manifold shopping mall of Berlin, will be comprehensively redesigned in its public and retail areas and will reopen on 15 September 2022. 




The popular Berlinese location hosting 17 buildings, planned and designed by renowned architects such as Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers, and Hans Kollhoff in the 1990s, will be revitalized and will become “The Playce”.

The shopping mall owned by Brookfield Properties will follow an extensive redevelopment and will be named according to a mix between the idea of "place" and the interactive aspect of "play", which emphasizes the destination’s revitalized offering emphasizing the idea of experience, discovery and inspiration.

"The Playce" aims to pick up on Potsdamer Platz's iconic past and turn it into a place for cultural encounters to become not only a new playground for Berliners, but a place where anyone can experience new and modern expressions of global and local, cultural events like, for instance, the international film festival Berlinale along with culinary delights, wellness, lifestyle and fashion events will be on offer throughout the year, to transform Potsdamer Platz onto the international scene. 





Phase one of the redesigned complex is scheduled to reopen to the public on Thursday, September 15th 2022, with the shops in "The Playce" opening through March 2023. This overall redesign will be complimented by an extensive redevelopment of the public realm, pedestrianization to complete in 2025.

Among the first to open in this new location will be big-name tenants, including Peek & Cloppenburg's first sustainability store, the Mission Play! Family Entertainment Centre by Mattel and a vast selection of restaurants and bars.
