The store, which is designed as a collaborative platform, offers more than just sustainable fashion as it also serves as a place for exchange and the development of sustainable concepts, and features services to extend products’ lifecycle, according to the store's motto "Not perfect, but better every day”.

"With our omnichannel offering, we are one of the largest multi-brand fashion retailers in Europe - but also a high level of responsibility for people and the environment,” said Thomas Freude, managing director, Peek & Cloppenburg KG, Düsseldorf.

"With our We Care Together initiative, we are working to meet this responsibility even better and to protect our environment. We are committed to supporting solutions for social justice, sustainable raw materials, fair and resource-saving production, and more conscious purchasing behaviors. The opening of our Conscious Fashion Store in Berlin marks an important step in this direction,” he added.

The idea behind this store is to actively contribute to a more sustainable tomorrow. Spread over around 3,000 sq. meters on three floors, this store offers current and more conscious fashion collections as well as a range of more sustainable brands characterized by creativity, diversity and fashionable designs. The assortment offered has been compiled according to aspects such as social, environmental and toxicological issues and includes newly incorporated brands such as Vaude, Knowledge Cotton Apparel and Lanius, among others.

Peek & Cloppenburg has started collaborating with brands such as Ecoalf and Armedangels and is offering the results of such cooperations inside this store.

Also part of the store’s offer are other brands from the Peek & Cloppenburg range, as well as the conscious exclusive brand like, for instance, Jake’s Studio.

The second basement level of the store, instead, is also home to the Vintage & Rags area where customers have the opportunity to purchase selected and unique vintage pieces.

The store is designed according to criteria that aim to make it impact less, according to criteria that Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf, calls "architecture of omission”. According to this philosophy, elements that are not absolutely necessary, such as ceiling panels, wall suspensions and floor coverings, are not used. Moreover, they use Made in Europe sustainable materials as much as possible.

The furniture concept of the store is based on reduced and flexible modules that are especially durable, and, in order to reduce power consumption, some areas of the store are illuminated selectively and use LED bulbs.

"The Conscious Fashion Store is intended to inspire and provide impetus," said Thimo Schwenzfeier, general sales manager responsible for the store.

"We want to appeal to people who are already interested in buying more sustainable fashion, as well as reach a broader mass and get them excited about this topic. That's why we decided to open in Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, a central location where both residents and tourists can drop by and discover our store,” he added.

In order to extend the wearability and thus the life of the goods, customers can have their garments repaired in the open workshop, but can also have them restyled and upgraded by professionals on site like, for instance, have their pieces customised by embroidery or printing by specially trained staff. With this concept, Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf is encouraging its customers to be even more conscious about their clothes and to give new life to their favorite pieces.

The Conscious Fashion Store is also a platform for events, workshops and speakers, as it hosts specifically created areas dedicated to sustainability and fashion. In this way, Peek & Cloppenburg wants to have a positive influence on the textile goods industry and contribute to new approaches to solutions and creative ideas for the sector.
