Jan-Jan Van Essche will be the Designer Project of the next edition of Pitti Uomo taking place in Florence, on January 10-13, 2023, in a location that will be announced in the next days.
The Belgian designer will bring his concept of fluid and essential fashion to Florence during an exclusive event scheduled for Wednesday, January 11, 2023.
"Jan-Jan Van Essche is a secluded and yet emblematic figure in contemporary men's fashion. He would probably be the first to consider any statement on gender distinction superfluous, either to reiterate it or to decree its overcoming," said Lapo Cianchi, director of communication and special events, Pitti Immagine.
"I am really happy and honored to have been invited by Pitti Uomo to present my work," said Jan-Jan Van Essche. It will be my brand's first ever fashion show, a special event in any case, and being able to organize it in the unique atmosphere of a city like Florence makes it even more special, something I could only have dreamed of. We feel the great support of Pitti Immagine in creating this presentation, and that is also why we want to make it an unforgettable moment,” added the designer.
Jan-Jan Van Essche was born in Antwerp, Belgium, where his design studio is now based. He graduated in 2003 from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and launched his eponymous brand in 2010, with Collection#1 - “yukkuri," the Japanese expression for "take it easy" or "step by step.”
Van Essche continuously aims to develop new insights into contemporary masculine elegance under the banner of simplicity and genderlessness.
The conventional silhouette of his creations is amplified so that each individual garment literally leaves room for interpretation. Unlike the classic Western approach that confines and shapes the body, Jan-Jan offers the body the luxury and freedom to shape the garment.
