A deeper focus on solidarity, environmental commitment and innovation will be the focus of next edition of Kingpins Amsterdam taking place on 12 and 13 April 2023 at Sugar City, Amsterdam. Vivian Wang, managing director & global sales manager, Kingpins Show, disclosed some key projects of next show's edition.

What will be the next edition of Kingpins Amsterdam like? What novelties will we discover?
At the upcoming Kingpins Show, we will debut a new layout for the show at Sugar City in Amsterdam. Exhibitors, installations, seminars, meeting rooms and catering stations will be spread across two floors of the facility.

How many exhibitors will you host? More or less than in last editions? Will you host any new company or others that had left, coming back as exhibitor?
This season, we will have 96 exhibitors, which is about the same as last season, but we are pleased to welcome several new exhibitors. Some, like Roica by Asahi Kasei and Hyosung TNC, are first time exhibitors at any Kingpins show.

Others are returning after a few seasons away, including Albiate1830 and Kaltex fabric mills; fiber producer Marmara Hemp; dye and chemical company Garmon - Kemin Group; and garment factory LotusTex / Lotus Garments.

Plus, we have a few companies that have exhibited at other Kingpins Shows but are joining us in Amsterdam for the first time, including fabric mills Ayyıldız; Black Peony Textile; SM Denim Mills and Winwin Textile; and garment factories Lefaxx Jeans and Blu Ground by Finteks.

Will you also host Turkish companies? Will they all be back? What is their situation like? Did they manage to return to produce?
Among the returning exhibitors are a significant number of Turkish mills. All of us at Kingpins were horrified by the recent devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, and we have been working to bring the community together to raise money to help those affected.

Though, we also think it’s important to show our love and support for our friends from the region. That is why we have been spreading the word about the Community Voices initiative and sharing video messages of support from people in the denim industry.

At the Amsterdam show, we want to bring that effort to the show floor by holding a Community Gathering on opening day, April 12, at 5 p.m. in the Green Area. We will be sharing videos from the project and inviting people to offer their thoughts and words of support.

Will you launch any new project, conference or initiative?
This time, we have a new installation area we are calling the Boxes, which is where we will showcase collaborations between our exhibitors and creatives.

It is also where you will find garments from our One Denim initiative, which is designed to inspire manufacturers and brands to really stretch the limits of each fabrication by showing the diverse styles and effects that can be done with just one fabric.

What about sustainability? Do you see a general bettering in the approach to the problem? If so, in which direction?
I often think that our denim community is more focused on sustainability than the wider apparel industry, and we have put together a lineup of initiatives and seminars that reflect that commitment.

There are too many to list them all, but Bluesign is returning to the show this season and will introduce its Bluesign Denim concept for the first time.

We also will have a panel moderated by Nienke Steen, from the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, which will address the economic incentives and regulatory requirements needed to make circular economy solutions common practice in our industry.

Our own Miguel Sanchez will lead a discussion about our Most Sustainable Product initiative, and we will have an installation of MSP garments designed by Piero Turk and Serena Conti, washed by Tonello and made by Denim House.

For inspiration, Denim Dudes’ Amy Leverton will present Kingpins Trend for Autumn/Winter 2024/2025 and Doug Gunn, from the Vintage Showroom, will lead a discussion about the impact of hot rod culture on menswear.
