Matteo Marzotto, 56, an expert entrepreneur in the fashion sector and the head of the Minerva Hub holding, received from the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, the honor of Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
Motivation for the recognition is: "The promotion of scientific research activity on cystic fibrosis through the funding of study projects and sports initiatives."
Among the many examples of Italian civil society and institutions, President Mattarella highlighted thirty significant examples of civic commitment, dedication to the common good and witness to republican values, including Matteo Marzotto.
After the loss of his sister who was ill with cystic fibrosis, on the initiative of a doctor, the entrepreneur started the non-profit Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation in Verona, which he chairs today. Recognised as an entity promoting scientific research on the disease, the Foundation promotes, selects and funds study projects to improve the duration and quality of life of sufferers.
The organization relies on a network of about 1,000 researchers and the work of 150 Delegations and Support Groups distributed in all regions of Italy, with 10,000 volunteers who raise funds and provide information about the disease.
In 2012, he conceived the FFC Bike Tour, cycling through much of Italy, involving sports friends and champions to raise awareness in fundraising efforts and spreading awareness about that disease.
The tribute ceremony will be held at the Quirinal Palace on March 24, 2023.
