Swimwear brand Vilebrequin has recently partnered with The Woolmark Company for the launch of its first Merino board shorts for s/s 2022.

The swimwear brand was founded 50 years ago and counts on a significant tailoring expertise along with an endless flair for experimenting.

The innovative men’s swimwear capsule takes inspiration from traditional suiting methods for everything from weaving, pattern cutting and pocket placement and guarantees long-lasting comfort and product construction.

Each of the three swim shorts of the capsule are manufactured following 32 steps and produced with non-mulesed Merino wool fabric. They are  available in navy, light grey and classic gingham from luxury Italian wool fabric specialist Reda’s Active Collection and recognized with the Wool Rich Blend certification.

“Merino wool is a real source of eco-innovation," said Vilebrequin’s CEO Roland Herlory. “We feel confident our clients will appreciate its remarkable quality and the naturally chic way it hangs on the body. Partnering with The Woolmark Company has introduced us to cutting-edge techniques that reduce our impact on the planet while delivering a uniquely elegant product,” he added.

Despite apparently strange, swimming or surfing in Merino wool is possible. Vilebrequin’s swim shorts are an example that shows how wool’s high-quality natural material can be hyped by technology for new, unexpected uses.

Merino wool is a 100% natural, renewable, and biodegradable highly versatile eco-friendly fiber. Thanks to their scale-like structure, worsted Merino wool fibers form a naturally water-friendly, quick-drying shell - especially when woven at higher densities.

These new swim shorts can dry in five to seven minutes, which, according to Vilebrequin, is much quicker than the target level.

And what about wearing Merino wool at the beach? The brand has no doubt as it believes that the material is ultra-breathable, moisture-wicking, thermo-regulating and resistant to UV, therefore it can also be worn comfortably worn in hot-weather.
