The industry is discussing today if using hemp in the denim industry can help it become more sustainable.

Pros and cons, origins of this unique raw material, innovation and special blends will be at the center of “Emphasize Hemp!”, a 30-minute talk that will take place during Denim Premiere Vision in Berlin, at Arena Berlin, on 17 May, at 6PM, in the Badeschiff area.

The round table will present some key players from the industry like the weaver and exhibitor Naveena Denim Ltd (NDL) and the jeans brand Tom Tailor from Hamburg, Germany presenting one of their latest joint development: a denim made from hemp.

Together with them, Lenzing and The Flax Company–Marmara Hemp will discuss the latest denim innovations and will disclose the properties of a unique natural fiber that has many great intrinsic qualities, and is grown producing little emissions and low waste of resources.

They will analyse some of this fiber’s weaknesses, too – which are not related to cannabinoids, as they come from a different plant – but have to do with softening treatments and blends.

Also in the limelight will be the experience of growers, weavers and brands that started some new promising business and established significant relationships within the value chain.

The participants will be: Christina Agtzidou, manager design denim Female, and Juliane Nowakowski, Head of Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility, both from Tom Tailor; Rashid Iqbal, executive director, NDL; Denis Druon, president/CEO, The Flax Company–Marmara Hemp; and Michael Kininmonth, product development, Lenzing. Moderating the talk will be Maria Cristina Pavarini, Senior Features Editor International, The SPIN OFF/Textil Wirtschaft.
