Finding sustainable aging methods that are alternatives to stonewashing is a dilemma that has worried the jeanswear industry for decades.
Le Faxx Jeans, a jeans manufacturer with its headquarters in Istanbul and production facilities in Sivas, Turkey, focuses on developing less harmful products and protecting the environment while developing technical innovations.
The company, which employs 600 people and was established in 2000 by Vedat Dogan and Ibrahim Önder, has developed the Knotwashed process, a technique that provides the same used look effect of highly polluting treatments using pumice stone and chemicals, though it has a much lower impact on the environment than conventional methods.

Knotwashed saves a variety of chemicals used when disposing pumice stones and lowers the amount of stone remains in the washing machines. Furthermore, maintenance of machines in production decreases, therefore the whole process’ carbon footprint is lower when compared with regular aging methods.
Washing jeans with these plastic knots is also gentler to the fabric, leading to less second quality products and more effective results.
