W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) has introduced two new two-layer Gore-Tex laminates for its Fabrics Division made with Bionic, a textile fabric by Return Textiles LLC.
The first results of this collaboration, that had first been announced in December 2020, will hit the market in f/w 2023 following a partnership signed with Patagonia.
The new textiles are made from plastic waste collected from coastal areas according to a collaboration with Gore supporting Bionic through an investment in their plastic recovery and sorting facility in Cóbano, Costa Rica.
After that Patagonia will launch products featuring the new Gore-Tex laminates, in the coming seasons, more of the brand's Gore-Tex customers will introduce products featuring the new laminates. All of them will be made with Gore's new membrane and 100% recycled Bionic polyester textile fabric, 50% of which is sourced from plastic waste from Bionic operations in coastal communities and 50% from municipal collection. They are Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certified, are durably waterproof, windproof and breathable, and carry the brand's “Guaranteed to Keep you Dry” warranty.
Gore has supported Bionic with investment, materials science and supply chain expertise, helping to create a scalable supply chain and local recycling infrastructure in Costa Rican communities.
