For fall 2021, H&M is launching "The H&M Recycled Denim Collection,” a new ten-piece selection including baggy and loose jeans, a trucker jacket and an oversized overshirt along with a bucket hat and shopper.
Each of the garments is entirely crafted from recycled fabrics–pre-consumer recycled cotton from industrial waste cuttings and post-consumer recycled cotton from collected garments. Some items are made with recycled polyester materials, too, while the accessories are made entirely from fabrics that have been cut and reused from production rejections.

Their style is influenced by the 1990s with comfy and oversize silhouettes with a focus on patchwork details and vintage light blue, norm ore mid-blues, dark vintage blue, vintage blacks and cool gray also popular in those years.

The collection is made up of 100% recycled fabrics, threads, labels and pocketing and in part out of recycled metal zippers and trims. Also, the washing techniques it employed have a low environmental impact and are free from harmful chemicals. As part of this strategy the dyeing substances it uses help save at least 65% and maximum 95% water when compared with conventional substances. They are also all free from aniline, a potentially dangerous chemical substance that can be found in wastewaters after the washing of denim.

The collection launched on September 9 worldwide in the Northern Hemisphere, while in the Southern Hemisphere will debut in early 2022. At present, a selection of pieces is already sold in stores and the whole range online at hm.com at prices ranging between €29.99 and €39.99 for a pair of jeans.

The Swedish fast fashion chain thinks that reusing from both production waste and collected garments is a vital aspect and one of its ambitions to start moving toward a circular production system.
"Remember, waste isn't waste until you actually waste it," says one of its mottos underlining that among its targets, by 2025, out of the raw materials it uses, it aims to offer products that are made with 30% recycled materials.
