Eight months after committing millions to Finnish textile fiber manufacturer Spinnova, Adidas presents the first Spinnova product. When and where the first hoodie with Spinnova fibers will be sold is also already known.

The Adidas Terrex hoodie is made of at least 25% wood-based Spinnova fibers and 75% organic cotton. The Spinnova fibers used are mechanically ground and processed into yarn without the use of harmful chemicals. In addition, there is no additional dyeing process, which further reduces the use of water. A limited quantity of the product will be available on Adidas.com and at other select retailers beginning in July.

Adidas is not the only major partner of the Finns, who have been listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange since June. A few months ago, VF outdoor brand The North Face also signed a cooperation agreement with Spinnova, and they also work with H&M. Already in 2019, outdoor outfitter Bergans of Norway has entered into a long-term development partnership with the Finns. At the beginning of 2020, Bergans of Norway was one of the first suppliers to present a product made entirely from Spinnova fiber, namely a plain backpack.

About a year ago, Spinnova communicated plans to build its first commercial factory in Finland to meet the growing demand for sustainable materials from global textile brands. The factory producing Spinnova fiber is expected to begin production at the end of 2022, along with Spinnova’s strategic partner, cellulose producer Suzano.
