Nobis, a Canadian outerwear brand, recently unveiled Next by Nobis, a new re-sell program that offers the ability to resell Nobis jackets through an authentication process, increasing the garments' lifecycle and reducing their environmental footprint.

The project stems from a partnership with Recurate Inc. a technology company that works with companies in the fashion, outdoor, electronics and equipment industries, and offers e-commerce solutions for selling second-hand products.

Recurate allows a marketplace to be created within each brand's e-commerce site, giving customers the ability to resell their previously purchased products. In addition, customers can purchase pre-owned products at bargain prices with the guarantee of authenticity, thanks to a process that uses Certilogo, an authentication system that certifies the origin of products.

"Nobis has always remained true to its commitment to creating durable, functional outerwear of the highest quality that will accompany our customers from season to season while withstanding the test of time," said Robin Yates, Nobis co-founder and vice president. "Consistent with the technical choices we favor, such as premium materials, craftsmanship and timeless aesthetics, it seemed natural to take the next step by further extending the life cycle of our products through the Next by Nobis program."

This peer-to-peer platform aims to provide a user-friendly experience from start to finish for both sellers and buyers as sellers can post the jackets they intend to resell by creating an account, uploading images, details and product condition. Pricing is determined upon the condition of the garments, helping Nobis reach a new market segment of consumers looking for discounted products or iconic designs that are no longer in production. Sellers will be able to ship the product directly to the buyer because the authentication technology requires no intermediate processes.

"Within our plan of long-term initiatives, the partnership with Recurate is the latest activation in corporate sustainability," said Elina Nurkka, research director, Nobis. "We are excited to be the first Canadian outerwear brand to introduce a "resale" program to the market, offering our customers the opportunity to make an informed choice."

Next by Nobis allows re-sellers to receive payment through their preferred method, with the option of turning 70% or 100% of the proceeds into credit to spend on the Nobis e-commerce platform or in store.

During 2023, the project will be further expanded and offer additional new services.
