Within the upcoming July edition of Premium Berlin, Fil Noir, a shirting brand originating from Tuscany and founded in 1899, will participate and will disclose its new identity and more sustainable direction.

Originally, the brand was founded in the small Tuscan town of Certaldo, when the brothers Luca and Lorenzo Manzini took over their father’s business after he passed away.

Thanks to their talent in craftsmanship and commerce they made their men’s underclothes become famous beyond the borders of Italy, and only one year later they manufactured their first shirt collection made with impeccable craftsmanship, fine cotton fabrics and ingredients, and affordable prices. Therefore, it was also sold in Italy, The UK and France.

Soon after, the Manzini brothers supplied 120 customers throughout Europe, with France being their major market. After an earthquake, only two Italian yarn factories had not been destroyed and could offer them their yarn inventories. As the customers’ insisted on having their shirts delivered, the Manzinis sewed up the only yarn in stock and thus, supplied their customers with snow-white shirts with black contrast stitching which perfectly fit with the dark business suits. Especially the chic Frenchmen went mad about the shirts with the Fil Noir (whose name stays for “black thread”), an event that marked the beginning of the success of the Fil Noir brand, but that, unfortunately, ended with the First World War.

In 2012, Swiss Hest GmbH has been entrusted by the Manzini descendants with the continuation of the Fil Noir-line. The brand has remained faithful to its core values, plus each Fil Noir vintage product carries the discrete Fil Noir stitched on the left side seam of the shirt as an explicit homage to the daring Manzini brothers.

In f/w 2016 Fil Noir launched its ladies’ collection and split the offer into Fil Noir Uomo and Fil Noir Donna, respectively for men and women, one year later added to the Donna collection super fine jersey t-shirts and tops matching the shirts to be worn underneath.

Today, this capsule collection includes various styles – from tank tops through short sleeve to long sleeve tops and a traditional jersey shirt styles – and is a staple of Fil’s Noir NOS program.

While offering an always wider selection of hues, since f/w 2020 has launched Fil Noir Respect, its sustainable capsule collection made of 100% ecological GOTS certified cotton and using 100% sustainable, cotton bags made of recyclable cotton.

Fil Noir has also started a new responsible initiative as it takes packaging back to the natural life cycle thanks to a deposit-refund-system. "As a company representing traditional values, we must take up the baton for those people who stand at the beginning of the supply chain and for our planet", said Heiko Storz, CEO of Fil Noir's licensee Swiss Hest Gmbh. “We cannot save the world, but within the bounds of possibility, we can take a share, since it’s past time,” he added.

For s/s 2023, the collection offers many styles and keeps on growing. Part of its offer are also linen shirts in a vast color range and the Solo Bianco capsule collection offering reinterpretations of white shirts. Debuting for this season is the Solo Stampato selection, offering printed shirts, one of Fil Noir’s highest competences.
