IM Men is a newborn men's collection created by MDS (Miyake Design Studio). The brand launched after ten years of research and development from Issey Miyake’s and his own team’s study on recycled materials and geometric constructions.

The new brand’s design is focused on qualities of practicality and functionality as its items are easy-to-wash, durable, easy-to-store and easily transportable.

The collection uses lightweight, crease-resistant fabrics made from recycled polyester or plant-based yarns, combined with cotton, Japanese paper and other similar fibers, mostly produced according to eco-friendly manufacturing processes. The creation of these fabrics requires a deep understanding of the characteristics and properties of the materials, from which the folding constructions of the garments and the designs of the patterns naturally derive.

IM Men aims to explore garments beyond comfort as it looks at functionality in everyday wear, while keeping an eye on maintenance and travel. The design and shape of each garment derive from an approach that is not focused the decorative aspect but rather on high utility and simplicity, while suggesting a sense of beauty in functionality.

Some items are made with anti-wrinkle technology and are so lightweight that the wearer hardly feels them. They feature a body-hugging silhouette and can be folded and carried in a compact size. Thus they are ideal for long trips.

The collection also includes versatile pieces completed by detachable details. The collar of a shirt jacket, for instance, is removable and can be stored inside the garment, so the jacket can become collarless. Likewise, the pants have an integrated piece of fabric that can be wrapped around the front or back of the body.

The collection, 100% made in Japan, offers 45 items per season. Prices range from €140 for a shirt to €700 for an outer jacket. It is sold through the brand’s own newly opened Im Men flagship store in Tokyo, 3-18-11 Minamiaoyama, Minato-ku, and from April 15, but by now for deliveries in Japan only, through the Issey Miyake online store.
