Avenir is a made-to-order brand offering small series of products. The brand only uses existing fabrics for re-creating new garments with the aim to eliminate textile waste and protect the environment, as its founders consider upcycling as the most sustainable way of producing clothes.

Sophie Louise Claussen and Niklas Florian Schütt, two fashion designers who most recently worked in Paris and London, founded the company in the beginning of 2020 in Berlin. After laying the groundwork for Avenir together, their professional paths diverged in October 2021and Claussen is now the sole managing director and responsible for operations with her team.

The label’s vision is rooted in the idea that fashion is no longer disposable and that by producing with existing textiles only is a way to avoid any excess and the unnecessary waste of resources.

Avenir offers handmade pieces recreated from overproduced and discarded textiles that would otherwise be thrown in a landfill or burned. It uses pre-loved textiles from missionary centers and surplus from wholesalers. The company carefully selects the pre-loved textiles to produce the finest upcycling products on demand. This way it can cut out emissions.

The collection includes total looks for men and women made up of shirts, T-shirts, trousers, jackets, knitwear, vests, coats and bombers, among others.

Denim plays a key role for the brand as it is one of the most overproduced and problematic materials to be disposed of in the industry. For this reason, many pieces of the collection are made with recycled denim pieces according to an innovative design playing with contrasting color fabric applications and mixes and innovative garment construction.
