German outdoor supplier Vaude is introducing another sustainably manufactured product with its new Recycle Pro Single bike bag, relying on 100% recycled materials.
As part of the development, Vaude partnered with Interseroh, an environmental service provider around closing product, material, and logistics loops, and APK, a recycling technology company founded in 2008.
According to Vaude, Interseroh thereby produces recycled plastic from post-consumer waste from the yellow garbage can or yellow bag in Germany, from which the back panel of the bag is made; APK produces high-purity recyclates from the waste from the production of PA/PE multilayer films for packaging, from which the fastening hooks of the Recycle Pro Single are made.
The bag, which offers 18.5 liters of volume and goes on sale in October, is made with Vaude's Eco Finish technology, is PFC- and PVC-free, and is also produced in a carbon-neutral manner in Germany.
The bike bags are intended to take a big step toward Vaude's set climate goal: "We are striving for global climate neutrality and would like to manufacture our products predominantly from bio-based or recycled materials by 2024," says Antje von Dewitz, managing director of Vaude. The orientation is based on the principle of the circular economy: By using renewable raw materials and recycling materials, fossil resources are to be conserved and CO2 emissions in material production are to be significantly reduced.
