North Sails, a manufacturer of sails and of the lifestyle and sportswear brand that received the B Corp certification in 2021, wants to increase its commitment to preserving the environment.

With this aim in mind, for f/w 2022/2023, it has launched its iconic Sailor Jacket model re-interpreted in three different versions using sustainable materials.

The Original Sailor Jacket, inspired by the original iconic model, is made from recycled nylon with a waterproof finish, and redesigned in a modern tighter fitting version.

The Performance Sailor Jacket, designed to cope with the harsh conditions of regattas, reinterprets the original style in a windproof, waterproof and breathable recycled fabric, and complemented by a fleece interior.

The North Tech Sailor Jacket is made of three-layer recycled fabric added with a waterproof finish.

As part of this season’s campaign "We Are North Sails", it has also engaged four ambassadors, professionals and leaders in their respective fields - windsurfer Antoine Martin, kite boarder Karlie Thoma, sailor Pete Cumming, and Jerome Foster II, climate activist and African-American rights  - who are committed to promote the preservation of the oceans.

North Sails plans to continue to increase the mix of low-emission materials in its lifestyle product range. Currently, 93% of the cotton it uses is organic, a larger share than the 65% it used in 2021; in addition, 96% of the polyester and nylon it uses is made from recycled material.

In addition to collaborations with organisations such as Ocean Family Foundation and Coral Gardeners, North Sails plans to strengthen its commitment to sustainable practices. By 2030, for instance, the company aims to increase the use of renewable energy in its sail making facilities to 80%, with a commitment to reduce its environmental impact by measuring direct and indirect carbon emissions from its operations.
