Fila, the sports and lifestyle brand of Italian origins, is keen about cultivating new projects, including unexpected matching and pairings. Its last chapter is a newly signed collaboration with Aries.
Led by Sofia Prantera, Aries is a non-gender luxury streetwear brand characterised by an artisanal and artistic approach to design and production. Born out of an interest in trash culture, outsider art, graphic design and illustration, this eclectic designer’s collections reflect her background education at Central Saint Martin's and her fascination with garment dyeing, printing and a rational approach to garment construction.
As part of Prantera’s multidisciplinary approach she is also involved in projects like self-publishing books, art exhibitions, experiences and collaborations that engage diverse artists and image makers who are part of the Aries world and community.
The new Aries x Fila project is a fusion of the two brands’ respective DNAs that set the origins for a new one, focused on a strong Italian love for classic references and attention to detail.
This collection is titled Vela Nera (Black Sail) as a homage to the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, but also to a famous Fila sailing jacket created for sailing champion Giovanni Soldini in 1996.
The collection wants to be an irreverent reinterpretation of this myth, offering sailing-inspired unisex sportswear, loose tailoring, nylon jumpsuits, windbreakers but also fitted, stretchy women's swimwear and seamless engineered basics.
The color palette blends black with Fila's graphic white and red with tones of gold and cream, while pointing out some of Aries distinctive juxtaposed elements like ancient and modern, luxury and technique.
