Desigual, the international fashion brand founded in Barcelona in 1984, is going through a phase of renewing its image, collections and stores with the aim of attracting younger consumers.

Maitrepierre, after working with brands such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Chanel, and Acne Studios, founded the brand that bears his last name in 2018. In his Paris atelier, he creates ready-to-wear garments that enhance the codes of haute couture from an artistic and digital perspective, maintaining an unwavering commitment to sustainability and paying attention to the supply chain, particularly in the choice of fabrics and processes.
For the collaboration with Desigual, Maitrepierre was inspired by the image of the black hole at the center of the Milky Way, as a metaphor for universal destruction and creation, immortalized by the first snapshot taken in 2022. From this snapshot, Maitrepierre drew inspiration for various prints reminiscent of nebulae and galaxies.
Two other important concepts in this collection are “solar punk”, a movement opposed to dystopia, which seeks to build an optimistic future inspired by issues such as technology and sustainability, and “jugaad”, a Hindi word meaning "creative solution" that explains the processes of repairing or developing products with minimal impact on the environment.
These guidelines set important points of contact between Maitrepierre and Desigual. "In 1984, Thomas Meyer, founder of Desigual, made a jacket, the Iconic, using several pairs of old jeans.... That spirit reflects exactly where we are now," the designer explained. "I think there is something very pure and poetic about creating, innovating, reformulating codes and generating impact," he added.
This collection is made entirely from sustainable fibers, an essential aspect for both Maitrepierre and Desigual. The garments are made from organic cotton or BCI and Naia, a celullosic fiber produced according to responsible criteria. All details are attentive to a similar attention for the environmental as the buttons on denim items are made from recycled materials, as is the back label on jeans, while leather accessories hold the Leather Working Group's sustainable process certificate.

The accessories completing the collection are made by using vegetable-tanned leather.
"This is a collection inspired by nature, with colors taken directly from the sky, from light blue to the print inspired by images of black holes,” Maitrepiere explained. "I think it's very beautiful that the effects on the fabrics speak of the creation of color from light,” he added.

Desigual employs more than 2,600 people and is present in 109 countries through ten sales channels, 393 mono brand stores and six product categories such as woman, man, kids, accessories, shoes and sport collections.
