Collaborations never stop astonishing, and the next Janaury edition of Milan Menswear Fashion Week will disclose quite some new ones. Among others, the new Marni x Carhartt WIP will be one of the most surprising ones.

This way, the artistic, color-savvy world of Marni will meet the streetwear and workwear minded universe of Carhartt WIP for the first time, offering a new vision of contemporary day wear through a wardrobe rooted in utilitarian silhouettes.

The collection is consisting of women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessories, and it reinterprets Carhartt WIP’s signatures with a fresh gaze, lending workwear-inspired archetypes a new guise through Marni’s unique flair for colors, prints and shapes.

Marni and Carhartt WIP will mark their collaboration with an in-store jam session at the Marni Montenapoleone flagship during Milan Fashion Week, kicking off Marni Jam, a multidisciplinary program that will further unfold globally.

The collection will release on January 14th, 2023 and will be available at Marni.com, in Marni boutiques and selected multi-brand stores across the globe, as well as selected Carhartt WIP flagship stores including New York, Paris Le Marais, Florence, London Soho, Antwerp, Berlin Mitte, Hong Kong, Taipei and Sydney. The collaboration will also be available in Japan from January 25th.

Marni X Carhartt WIP is characterized by a selection of new material combinations, all-over prints and oversize volumes, mixing the substantiality of authentic utility wear with the light-hearted approach of Marni.

A clover print characterized jackets and tops, as well as bucket hats, chunky slip-on sneakers, and a canvas tote bag. Meanwhile, jersey tops hybridize the shape of a tee with the iconic silhouette of a basketball tank top, and feature a bold iteration of Carhartt WIP’s ‘C’ Logo.

In addition, shearlings and soft calfskins add a tactile richness to typically rugged styles like the four-pocket Michigan Coat and Vest, while heart shaped gold-tone buttons offer an additional element of detail, referencing buttons that could be found on Carhartt products as far back as 1889.

An interplay of corduroy and canvas appears on items including a car coat and over shirt, further elevated by Marni’s signature flair for color, while pockets bear a co-branded motif that utilizes a unique single thread embroidery technique.

The campaign accompanying the launch of the collaboration stars the seminal funk artist Bootsy Collins – formerly of Parliament-Funkadelic. The American singer and bassist, known for his collaborations with black music legends such as James Brown and George Clinton and for his significant contributions to the evolution of funk bass, is joined by his wife Patti, his grandson Vincent and musician Babyxsosa in their Cincinatti home, in a series of images shot by Lengua, with styling by Haley Wollens.

Established in 1994, Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP) develops its own collections based on original Carhartt workwear. The brand combines authentic adaptations of these robust American archetypes, while engaging with the subcultures that have embraced it.

Having its own skate team and music department, Carhartt WIP is familiar with different types of collaborations as it has supported an array of artists since its foundation in 1994, and worked throughout the years with a number of like-minded collaborators, including A.P.C., Converse, Junya Watanabe, Nike and Motown.
