Ecoalf, a Spanish company that since 2009 has been producing clothing and accessories made from recycled raw materials, has begun a collaboration with the Milan concept store Clan Upstairs.

The latest project born from this partnership is the Microplastics project that is part of the Ecoalf 1.0 premium line, launched for the s/s 2022 season.

After years of research, the brand presented 0-Release Yarn, a yarn that, thanks to a hydrogen technology seals inside all the microfibers, has the ambition to prevent pollution caused by microplastics.

The 0-Release Yarn uses hydrogen bonds within the molecule to create a highly crystalline structure that seals inside all the microfibers. This Global Recycled Standard certified yarn is composed of a 50% recycled nylon from the automotive industry and 50% virgin nylon. Ecoalf's 0-Release Yarn releases 0.000362 microfibers, a significantly smaller amount than typical synthetic materials that can release up to 700,000 fibers during a normal wash.

The “hydro-cohesion” process used to produce this fiber causes the molecules to arrange themselves according to a combination that provides greater strength and better recovery, while avoiding a high release of microfibers.

When used at high temperatures it can also be used toi give stretch properties without using elastomers and, has verst soft hand and moisture management properties. Unlike other performance yarns, it does not require chemical treatments such as those based on silicons or softeners. It also uses “silver technology” for a permanent antivirus effect that blocks the growth of viruses, bacteria and odors.

It also uses a zero-water dyeing process in which color is added during the yarn extrusion process, completely eliminating traditional fabric and garment dyeing.

From April 20 to April 27, 2022, Clan Upstairs hosted a special shop-in-the-shop and showcase presenting an exclusive installation dedicated to garments made with the innovative fabric.

Pieces from the microplastic collection are on sale at the Clan Upstairs boutique at Via Pontaccio 15 and at clanupstairs.com
