The enterprise was born in 2004 in Castiglione Olona, near Varese, in an area of Northern Italy that in the mid-1800s was the first Italian eyewear district and that is still the second Italian eyewear district.

The company has experienced steady growth from 2004 to the present because it is built on a business model according to which, from design to the end customer, the entire process is followed internally, and the eyewear sold through the 170 mono brand stores in its network, including direct and franchise stores.

Since 2018, the brand has also embarked on a growing internationalization path, which has seen it open stores in Spain, Mexico, India, Iran, Malta, Egypt, Turkey, Estonia, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia.

Nau! is a sustainable and socially responsible company, and each year it invests ten percent of its profits in social welfare, with projects designed to help people or support the environment.

In 2009 Nau! Launched  eyewear from up to 96% recycled plastic, regenerating waste from normal eyewear production and giving it new shape and life. Nau! recycled plastic collections are certified Recycled Plastic by CSI.

In 2021, it created Nau! Ocean Plastic, a collection made from a stable, non-toxic and durable plastic polymer, 30 percent of which is made from bottles fished out of the sea. Thanks to this technology, each pair of glasses in this line contains approximately the plastic of five PET bottles.

Starting in 2022, NAU! is launching Nuu!Me, the first collection of 100 percent customized Nau! eyewear. They are custom-made and super sustainable eyewear models because they are only made to order. Moreover, on nau.it each customer can see how the eyewear fits thanks to the new 3D configurator with virtual try on.

Nau! also aims to become Carbon Neutral, as the CO2 produced to make each pair of eyewear sold - for prescription frames, sunglasses, pre-mounted reading glasses - is offset through the support of climate protection projects.

For 2022/23, the company has selected the Bukaleba reforestation project, an area in eastern Uganda, an area with one of the highest deforestation rates in the world. A project for which Nau! has already allocated funds to offset two million kilos of CO2 between now and the end of May 2023.
