Online giant Amazon wants to increase its sustainable image and has introduced Amazon Aware, a collection including apparel, home, and beauty products. The company calls the product line “thoughtfully designed and made from materials such as recycled polyester, organic cotton, and bio-based ingredients.”

Aware products come with third-party certifications featured in Amazon’s Climate Pledge Friendly program. Apparel, for example, features third-party certifications such as Organic Content Standard 100, Global Recycle Standard, and HIGG Index Materials Seal; bedding and bath items use certified organic cotton and are certified Made in Green by Oeko-Tex, which verifies that products have been manufactured using processes with a reduced environmental impact and under socially responsible working conditions.

The products are also certified as carbon neutral, which means that Amazon has accounted for product emissions and neutralized remaining emissions through carbon-credits. The carbon footprint of each product is calculated by ClimatePartner, an external certifier, using the GHG (Greenhouse Gas) protocol, the company says.

Amazon’s Climate Pledge Friendly program was launched in 2020 to help customers discover products that are more sustainable on Amazon. Accordingly, all Amazon Aware products can be purchased via the Climate Pledge Friendly storefront on Amazon.com or on Amazon Aware.

Aware products are available in the U.S., Canada, and Europe; retail prices for apparel range between $19 (€17) for T-Shirts, $45 for jeans and $55 for jackets.

Amazon sees this new product offer as another step in its sustainability progress as the company works toward addressing the climate crisis and reaching net-zero carbon by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement.
