Hessnatur introduced its new selvage denim line fully manufactured in Bangladesh.

The background of the launch is its “Selvedge Jeans Project” which was initiated to establish an alternative for the usually in Bangladesh produced fast fashion, especially after the factory catastrophe in Rana Plaza back in 2014. In cooperation with the German research and development company and Classical Handmade Products from Northern Bangladesh, hessnatur concentrated on finding a complete value chain feasible on site.

The raw materials bio cotton and indigo plant are cultivated under fair conditions as well as in its natural environment. Specially installed for the project are an own dyeing factory and a weaving facility with classical looms. The quality of the garments resembles Japanese denim, only a little softer because of the hand weaving.

Each one of the selvage jeans is unique due to all manual work. The first 150 pairs are numbered and available via hessnatur’s website.
