The upcoming edition of Pitti Uomo is ready for kickoff. The international menswear show will present novelties for f/w 2018-19 within Fortezza Da Basso and throughout Florence January 9 to 12.
The main theme for this edition will be Pitti Live Movie, entirely inspired by the movie world. For this, the Fortezza’s main square will look like a movie theatre district decorated by billboards and posters presenting blockbusters, cult movies and experimental films designed by creative director Sergio Colantuoni.
Denim superstar
For this edition, among many other events and initiatives, denim will be a protagonist. Denham and its longtime partner Candiani Denim will celebrate two anniversaries–Denham will light up its first ten candles while Candiani Denim will hit its 80th anniversary within the Denham x Candiani Denim event to be held inside the Fortezza on January 10. It will also launch the exclusive celebrative book A Decade of Denham.

On that same night Replay will host “The Denim Revolution,” a special gala event that will disclose a new evolutionary step for its jeanswear collection. It will be held at the former Manufattura Tabacchi.

Other brands will be participating in the show. Pepe Jeans will celebrate its 45th anniversary and Gas will show a new collection focused on the importance of handcrafted products and jeans.

Athleisure in the spotlight
The show will also host Athlovers, a new project focused on athletic-minded collections. For the first time inside the Polveriera section of the show, historic Biella wool fabric manufacturer Reda will be the star. The initiative will present five innovative international brands employing its Reda Active forward-minded fabrics. The brands involved in the project are 42.54 (Belgium), Aeance (Germany), Dyne (USA), Gr1ps (Italy) and Isaora (USA).
Special mentions for new sportswear and streetwear collabs
After its return for f/w 2017-18 Italian sportswear brand Best Company will present its new Best Company by Olmes Carretti capsule collection designed by the founder of the brand that was born in the ’80s.
California-born sneaker brand Drunknmunky will announce the launch of a special capsule sneaker selection designed by Tony Hawk called Drunknmunky Capsule Collection by Tony Hawk Mc Hawk Master. Born in California in 1968, Hawk is an icon of vert skate for his spectacular twists and jumps and a point of reference for young generations.

Also debuting at Pitti are two new Peak Performance collections–Peak Performance Urbanwear and the special collab Peak Performance x Nigel Cabourn with the sportswear guru.
Woolrich will present a new initiative with Deus Ex Machina. Woolrich will also present a movie dedicated to the US town of Woolrich, Pennsylvania and its historic wool manufacturing factory. The movie will complete a special immersive installation that will make visitors feel part of the history of the brand.
Birkenstock will present its mobile retail concept Birkenstock Box and a will launch a new short movie by Dan Tobin Smith.
On 9 January the special collab Damir Doma X Lotto will be showcased within an event to be held at Jaguar Club.
And the winner is....
Award-winning ideas will complete the show. Guest Designers of this edition will be Undercover by Jun Takahashi and Takahiromiyashta The Soloist. They will present their men’s fall/winter 2018-19 collections.
In addition, Italian brand Malibu 1992 will launch its new M1992 project designed by eclectic designer and Italian DJ Dorian Stefano Tarantini.
The International Woolmark Prize will return to Pitti Uomo with its global finale to be held on January 9 at Stazione Leopolda. Both menswear and womenswear categories will be awarded during this event.
Finland will have a special hype for this edition as it will be the official Guest Nation.
Finally, eyes will also be set be on Korea as the Concept Korea @ Pitti Uomo 93 initiative will host designers Beyond Closet and Bmuet(te) as protagonists of a catwalk show to be held at Dogana on January 10.
