Within Milan Menswear Shows, Swarovski presented a special initiative dedicated to mens' fashion – the SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS Mens' Club.
The Austrian crystal-specialized manufacturer founded in 1895, invited 16 high-end menswear brands to create, according to individual approaches and visions, a complete outfit or accessory item made with Swarovski Elements. These special creations were presented on the night of Jan. 15 in Milan’s city center at the historical location Palazzo Clerici.
The star-studded list of participating designers stretches from Italian classic menswear specialists such as Brioni, Salvatore Ferragamo, Ermenegildo Zegna, Piombo and Borsalino to fashion authorities such as Giorgio Armani with his Emporio Armani line, Gianfranco Ferrè and Dior Homme; historical houses like Bally, Pringle of Scotland, Boss Selection and fashion-driven brands such as Roberto Cavalli and Marni sharing space with up-and-coming talents like Max Kibardin, Umit Benan, and innovative bike brand Abici.
All the designers involved in the project worked with crystals in unexpected ways, exploring the most different possibilities of the multifaceted decor element. Pieces ranged from Emporio Armani, Brioni and Zegna’s tuxedos to Marni’s trompe l’oeil suit, from Ferragamo’s brogues and Max Kibardin’s slippers to Borsalino’s fedora and Piombo’s decadent robe, not to mention Abici’s black tie bicycle and Pringle of Scotland’s chunky knits.
Giorgio Armani commented: “I thought of using these luminous crystals as an unusual, beautiful detail, creating a contemporary, elegant look for men,” while Kris Van Assche used Swarovski Elements to make “something as beautiful inside as it is from the outside”. According to Massimiliano Giornetti of Ferragamo, “Swarovski Elements represents excellence, sensuality and dreams”, and for Massimo Piombo “they could become the spice of menswear”. Pringle of Scotland’s Clare Waight Keller summarizes: “The crystals can genuinely give a new dimension to something quite classic”.
