In times when retail spaces tend to look all the same and city centers become more boring it needs some fresh ideas to stand out. ‘Box’, launched by the Finnish postal service Posti, is one of them and combines functionality and convenience with modern design.

Situated at the heart of Helsinki on a 1,100 sq. meters space, Box is a self-service collection point where customers can pick-up and return packages they've ordered online; the bright, trendy and colorful place space created by design studio Fyra includes a recycling area, fitting rooms and product show space for brands and retailers.

So in addition to just sending and receiving parcels, customers can even open and try on their online shopping in changing rooms. At the same time, they can leave all of the packaging material at Box to be recycled or reused by other customers.

The parcel station with 600 lockers allows sending and picking up parcels whenever it suits the customer since Box is open from dusk til dawn. On top of that, there are show areas so that the Instagram generation can take a few photos or unboxing videos in the appropriate surroundings.

Brands and retailers can also present their products in an area called "Spotlight": Box enables piloting a brick-and-mortar store, setting up a seasonal shop or presence during a campaign in Helsinki city center, for instance.

Posti plans to extend Box’s services to bring them to consumers throughout Finland.
