Sporting one of the most recognizable logos in the athletic industry, Pony International, LLC ( announced a brand new partnership today with Sports Biomechanics Inc. (SBI), a leading expert in the field of footwear technology.

Under the partnership Pony will consult with an assigned team of biomechanic engineers on product testing and evaluation of Pony’s performance footwear against the industry’s benchmarks. SBI, which has been producing dozens of footwear patents on specialized footwear innovations for over 20 years, will also assist in research and developing new and innovative materials for Pony. Testing is to be done at Michigan State University.

SBI will research and test Pony products at the renowned Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratories (OBL), located at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University (MSU), utilizing test and development methods such as biomechanical analysis, ASTM and ANSI standard material test methods, ergonomic evaluation, and computer modeling.

To date, MSU has performed compression and flexion testing on Pony basketball and soccer products, and gathered comprehensive data currently being used in the design development of Pony footwear.

Founded in 1972 and best known for its logo and street-influenced styles, Pony became a hit among top athletes of the day, including Wilt Chamberlain, Pele, Joe Frazier, Earl Campbell and Larry Holmes.
