Following days of rumors, the OTB Group officially announced John Galliano as the new creative director of Maison Martin Margiela today.

“Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul. John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time,” commented Renzo Rosso, President of OTB. “A unique, exceptional couturier for a Maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion. I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create, and wish him to here find his new home.”

Galliano was sacked from Dior in February 2011 after making anti-Semitic statements to guests in a Paris bar. Subsequently, the designer spent some time in rehab to cure from alcohol and medicine dependence. A few weeks ago, Galliano tried to refurbish his image by giving his first major television interview after the incident where he declared he was slowly stepping back into fashion and that he would like to one day explain what happened in person to Bernard Arnault, chairman of LVMH (which controls Dior).
