Soko Chimica is an Italian specialist in chemical auxiliaries for the textile and jeanswear industry. The company was founded at the beginning of the 1900s in Florence where it still operates and is managed by the third generation of its founders, the Urbini family.
Among its most recent offers is Black Magic, a new product used to treat black denim. Usually, aging and fading black denim requires a significant quantity of water as it is achieved in a series of steps with the result of significant CO2 emissions and alkaline treatments that are particularly aggressive on the environment.
Differently, Soko Chimica’s Black Magic aims to achieve an evident faded effect by saving time and resources. “Black Magic achieves the same result of conventional treatments reducing up to 70% time and water consumption,” explained Matteo Urbini, owner, Soko Chimica. “While normal treatments work from 80°C, Black Magic works from 50°C; that means less energy use and less CO2 emissions and, looking at the overall process, less stress for the fabric,” he added.
This process is Eco Passport by Oeko-Tex certified and ZDHC approved at level 3, as a series of about other 60 products of the company’s most sustainable selection. It also offers GOTS certified chemicals, is part of the Higg Index and satisfies the national and international standards of the SGS System Certification.
Soko also has developed a new enzyme-based treatment that, once it is added on the surface of the fabric after the laser treatment, shall help to achieve better-looking jeans.
