Graphene is a new textile material that could meet tomorrow’s consumers’ needs as its application can improve the technical properties of traditional fabrics without changing their natural structure, while adding many beneficial characteristics.
This material is only one atom-thick and is bonded in a honeycomb lattice structure that despite being so thin is a very good conductor of heat and electricity. It is a nanotech soft material characterised by high thermal conductive capacities including body temperature thermoregulation. It is also lightweight and antibacterial; it has anti-UV and anti-static properties and it reflects far infrared energy back into its wearers’ body–which should help them feel better.

Some denim manufacturers are starting to offer denims that incorporate graphene. Among them there is Advance Denim that was interested in using it as it acts as an anti-bacterial agent that destroys the cell membrane of bacteria it encounters. The denim specialist has introduced it for s/s 2022 as part of its Advanctech line of technical denims with the intention of protecting consumers’ health. This specific denim is called Kyorene Single-Layer Graphene Denim and uses a patented method of infusing the graphene into the fiber so its anti-microbial properties will last for the whole life of the garment.
