The folks of Danish sustainable menswear brand KnowledgeCotton Apparel just added a new product line to their assortment: denim.
But much more importantly KCA calls its denim line “probably the most honest denim line ever created,” supposedly knowing that a message like this raises the bar pretty high. At the same time the team around Mads Mørup, founder & CEO at KnowledgeCotton Apparel, lists some production facts to convince customers to trust in the sustainable approach:
It claims that the denim is made of 98% GOTS certified organic cotton and 2% Lycra fabric ensuring zero chemical impact on soil and offering better living conditions for the farmers and their families. Additionally the dye process is completely clean using eco-friendly liquid indigo. It uses 65% less water and wastewater is always 100% cleaned. The dye technology is GOTS certified and uses 70% less chemicals. The production facility is partly powered by solar and local windmill energy, says KCA. The company’s target is a 100% carbon neutral processing by 2025.

“I suppose it’s hard for people outside our company to fully understand how much this new, completely clean and all-genuine denim means to us here at KnowledgeCotton Apparel. How much hard work that lies behind it. All the research and product development. The countless factory visits and supplier meetings. The repeated attempts and failures. And ultimately, the amazing result that manifests everything we stand for as a company,” says Mørup.
The denim line will be a cohesive concept in the f/w 2019 collection and launches with two jean fits, straight and loose, in three different washes, shirts and a jean jacket in two washes. According to KCA all pieces feature premium selvedge qualities from ecological cotton with a built-in stretch function. Retail prices range between €140 (jeans) and €200 (jacket).
