On September 19, within Milan Fashion Week, the Italian fashion capital hosted a conference presenting Denim Institute Milano (DIM), a new educational and cultural pole dedicated to denim. It also underlined how denim is playing an increasingly important role in fashion and in adopting sustainable industrial practices.

The conference entitled “Denim, Science, Ethic and Aesthetic” was held at Palazzo Marino and presented some of the partners of the newborn institute founded by denim insider Cristian Murianni, together with key insiders of the denim industry. Supported by Comune di Milano and Milan’s Cultural Center Emanuele Mounier, the conference hosted, among others, Alberto De Conti (Hub 1922), Stenilio Morazzini (Montega), Alice Tonello (Tonello), Francesca Polato (Berto), Simon Giuliani (Candiani Denim), Paolo Gnutti (PG Denim) and Fabrizio Consoli (Blue of A Kind).

 

DIM will collaborate with Milanese fashion school Istituto di Moda Burgo and Università Mercatorum. Courses will be open to everyone and will give the opportunity to learn specific knowledge within the denim business. They will start from the second week of November and will include courses of history of denim, tailoring lessons and laboratories organized inside companies.Teachers will include specialists from the fabric, accessories and treatment industries.

 

On October 21, they will present the program of courses along with a roundtable involving companies, consultants, influencers, designers, retailers and other experts.
