Japanese cult designer Michiko Koshino has made a welcome return to the European market. Intrinsically linked to London, the Central Saint Martins alumna ran a store in the British capital in the 90s and established herself as one of the club scene’s most influential innovators.

Her inflatable jackets, that make the current extreme volume trend look meek in comparison, struck a particular chord with the outré club kids – as well as the likes of David Bowie and Candy Ken.
These signature creations form part of Michiko Koshino’s most recent men’s collection, which she presented during the FW17 edition of London Fashion Week Men’s. The famous inflatables appeared in the shape of full garments, like a sort of blow-up armor, but it also made subtler appearances in the shape of detachable hoods and sleeves.

The rest of the collection is a more practical affair, displaying the designer’s confident way with pattern cutting and her ability to elevate casualwear pieces such as humble parkas and wide-leg trousers into something quite compelling.
