To commemorate its 40th anniversary, Stüssy has collaborated with CDG by Comme des Garçons on an exclusive capsule collection of accessible wardrobe essentials. The selection includes a co-branded green satin nylon military MA1 jacket, a midweight pinstripe jacket and matching pant, logo-focused graphic T-shirts, a heavy cotton tote bag and a bucket hat.

Its accidental founder Shawn Stussy was a surfer who used to shape his own boards for friends and locals in Laguna Beach, California. He began screening T-shirts and shorts to sell along with the surfboards as a form of promotion with his surname–plus an added umlaut–written in a graffiti-influenced hand style that became the company logo.

International musicians, skaters, DJs and artists with similar tastes influenced the brand’s clothing. Trendsetters in New York, London, Tokyo and other areas of the world were eager to get aboard this movement inspired by a network of like-minded individuals and later became the “International Stüssy Tribe” with chapters in New York, Tokyo, London, Berlin and Los Angeles making it spread organically. The brand was committed to producing relevant, good quality clothing at a reasonable price available only at very select stores worldwide in limited quantities, a new concept at the time.
